Exercise and Aging

I’m a little sad today because one of my new members in boot camp has dropped out, and I think it was my “tough love” that was behind her decision.
The issue of age came up and she said “I’m too old to be doing these exercises”. She went on to tell me about how many children she had so she knew what pain was like, and she didn’t want to feel any pain and (here’s the catcher) she wanted to be there for her children and not have them worry about her. By the way, her children are all grown.
First of all, I do not try to sugarcoat or modify my recommendations to what people want to hear. My mission is to teach people what they need to hear. In this case, it was simply if you want to be there for your children and not have them taking care of you because you are someday unable to get out of your chair, then you owe it to yourself to be here exercising now. The Wisdom of Oprah

Oprah’s latest weight gain ordeal has been a field day not only in
the eyes of her fans, but also in the fitness industry. I want to
mention a few things.
1. With all her money she could have any expert in the world help
her, but she still has to take responsibility and do the work
herself. Don’t even think about using money as an excuse,
obviously, you don’t have to be rich to lose weight.
2. Oprah shows us by example that quick-fix or overly restrictive
diets don’t work. Do you recall the famous show/picture where she
has a wheel-barrel full of fat representing the 67 pounds she lost?
She had lost the weight on a liquid protein diet. “I had literally
starved myself for four months — not a morsel of food,” Winfrey
recalled in 2005. Her weight has continued to yo-yo for 20 years
since that diet.
Easy Fat-Loss Tip: Eat Your Breakfast!

The truth is that eating breakfast is indeed the most important meal of the day,
especially if you are trying to lose weight. When you skip breakfast, you are
programming your body to store more fat. Your metabolism will be sluggish,
and you are more likely to have uncontrollable cravings later in the day causing
you to eat too many calories. If that’s not bad enough, it can affect your mood,
your stress level, and can cause your thinking to be unclear.
Eating several meals a day starting with breakfast will help you maintain higher
energy levels and control your appetite. If you eat lunch at noon and dinner around
7:00 PM, then skip breakfast the next day… you will have gone 17 hours without
any food. Your body will get a signal that it is starving and will begin to store fat.
This is your body’s response to starvation.
This proven way of eating healthy for fat loss and lean muscle gain is detailed in

Are you doing hours of cardio each week but the weight is not coming off?
Hands down, experts in the fitness industry are saying that High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) will give you the greatest benefit for fat loss, heart health, and muscle retention than long, steady state cardio.
