Don’t Let the Bad Economy Make for a Bad Exercise Plan

I hope you are not letting the bad economy make for a bad exercise plan. While it is nice, you do not have to join a fancy gym or hire a personal trainer every time you work out to get results.

The American Council on Exercise (ACE), announced that the “overarching theme for fitness in 2009 is getting more bang for the buck.” “Consumers will engage in workouts that provide multiple benefits due to time and economic limitations”, said Chief of Science Officer Cedric X. Bryant, Ph.D.

KETTLEBELLS

I recently added a kettlebell class in addition to the boot camp classes I run. Kettlebells are excellent to have in your fitness “tool-box”. If you think they are just a fad, too dangerous and hard core, or no different than a dumbbell, you might want to rethink that! Women love kettlebell training because exercises like the basic swing work the hips, thighs and glutes like you wouldn’t believe!

The fact that you now see kettlebells more and more in mainstream retailers and sporting goods stores should be evidence that it is a legitimate piece of exercise equipment. Best of all, if working out at home or in a park is your thing, or you just want a break from the gym, they take up extremely little space in your house, and you can toss them in your car and drive to your nearest park for an outdoor workout. Damaging Relationships

In coaching I get asked how to deal with non-supporting friends or family. What do you do when someone tries to sabotage your progress with unhealthy food or accuses you of being “obsessed” with making healthy life-style choices?

When you announce you are on a “diet” or joined a gym, suddenly all eyes fall upon you and your every move. Are you all talk or really serious? Sometimes people actually look for your failure, to justify their own! How do you deal with the people that want you to go out drinking or eat crappy food?

No matter how strong your will power, some situations are better avoided. Develop a success mentality… “ I can drink alcohol and eat crappy foods or I can take another step now to reach my goals.”
