Water… the “Magic Potion”

Is there a “Magic Potion”?
What would you say if I told you that I had a “magic potion” that was cheap, easy to obtain, had no calories, no fat, no carbs or no known side effects? What if I told you that this magic potion would have the following effects on your body?
* Increase your energy
* Increase your level of concentration
* Increase your rate of fat burn
* Improve your skin tone
* Increase your strength
* Enhance muscle tone
* Increase your flexibility
* Increase your endurance
* Help you recover faster from exercise
* Decrease the amount of water you retain
* Decrease your fat storage
* Decrease your insulin sensitivity
* Speed up your metabolism
* Help remove toxins from your body and keep it clean and healthy
What if I told you my “magic potion” was none other than WATER?
Okay… so it is not exactly a “magic potion”, but it is the single
most important component to losing fat, and keeping it off.
Every physiological and psychological function in your body depends
on water. Even the slightest level of dehydration can have huge
consequences on your health, making you weaker, have less mental
alertness, and be more likely to hold onto your body fat.
You probably already KNOW the importance of drinking water. You
might even be thinking you are already drinking enough water as it is each
day. Even if you think you are, I would like to invite you to take
this challenge:
Purchase a 20 oz. Water bottle and focus on drinking at least 4 or
5 of them every day for 7 days. After the 7 days, I want to hear
from you. You can email me or post on my blog.
Sound like a lot to drink? This is actually not an excessive amount.
You may be used to getting your fluids from other sources such as
coffee, tea, soda, or wine.
You are probably imagining all the trips to the bathroom you will
be making. But let me ask you this: Is that really a big price to
pay when you KNOW all the increased BENEFITS you will get by
drinking more water?
Here is how it works:
Your kidneys need to have enough water to function properly. If they are functioning at low capacity, then your liver will have to do more work. One of the liver’s functions is to metabolize fat that is stored for the body to use as energy. If the liver is having to pick up the slack for what the kidney cannot do without enough water, then it will not be able to metabolize the fat with full effectiveness. If the liver is metabolizing less fat, then you are jeopardizing your fat loss.
A common misconception is that drinking lots of water causes water retention. Actually, the opposite is true. It is lack of water that causes water retention. If the body isn’t getting the proper amount of water, it begins to store what it can. So whenever you drink water, you will automatically retain it, and feel uncomfortable. The only solution is to provide your body with more water than it needs, which will allow you to flush the excess water out of your system.
You might think it is too much salt in your diet or specific foods that cause water retention, but usually the cause is not having enough water in your system. If you are drinking enough, your body will get rid of the excess salt as well.
Another thing to consider about water is that being thirsty causes you to feel hunger and want to overeat. The signals for thirst and hunger are similar so you may want to eat when you should be drinking. Next time you feel hungry, try drinking a glass of water and wait 15-20 minutes, a lot of times you will feel satisfied, or at least you won’t tend to overeat.
Drinking water aids in digestion and the fat burning process. It helps you remove toxins from the body, keeping you clean and healthy… You bathe the outside of your body don’t you? Think of drinking as your internal shower!
Do not think that sodas, diet or otherwise, coffee, tea, and alcoholic drinks count as water. They can dehydrate you and make you thirstier and fatter than before.
Sometimes it is the simplest things that can hold us back from achieving the next level of ultimate fitness.
Be Well… and have a glass of water!
Lauren
